The costume is sewn from the original
material of garments crafted by Alicia's blood ancestor Olena Warren,
a seamstress of superlative skill who lived in the early 1600's. A jealous
rival accused that the perfection of her craft could only be the result
of witchery. In this particular case, there was actually some truth
to the charges, although Olena had never done any soul harm. Nonetheless,
after a trumped up trial she was condemned to be burned alive. Olena
used every bit of her skill to secretly fashion a set of garments charmed
to protect their wearer from harm. Although sentenced to death at the
stake, the enchanted clothing rendered her impervious to the flames.
Olena was able to escape under cover of the fire.
Changing appearance and identity, she eventually made her way to a safe
haven, the new world called America. Olena discovered the skillfully
woven intricate spells had charmed the garments beyond just protection
against fire. They actually rendered the wearer impervious to harm and
enhanced their physical abilities. Furthermore, once the garments were
donned, they could only be removed voluntarily by the wearer. The only
way the clothing could be cut or altered was by the sewing implements
she had simultaneously charmed. Olena kept these valuable tools along
with her diary spell book in an intricately carved sewing box. Settling
in the colonies, Olena fell in love with and married Benjamin Ember
who later became a successful merchant. Eventually, the couple had three
children. The enchanted garments, tools and the knowledge of their use
were kept a closely guarded family secret to be passed on to future
generations.
Over time, the garments and their secrets made
their way into Alicia's hands which she crafted into the Ragdoll costume
she wears today.
