WHO is Tantrum Entertainment?

The paths of founders and creative directors Frank Cirocco and Gary Winnick have crossed many times throughout their comprehensive careers before establishing Tantrum Entertainment. Both have worked extensively in the entertainment software, comics and commercial art markets as artists, production designers, art directors, game designers, writers and executive producers. Currently, they head not only Tantrum Entertainment, but Lightsource Studios LLC, a premiere San Francisco Bay Area art firm and production house with clients that include Dreamworks, Microsoft, Mattel, Pacific Data Images, Electronic Arts, Adobe and Universal Studios. Prior to forming Lightsource Studios, both partners worked for companies such as Lucasfilm Ltd., Atari, Spectrum-Holobyte, Rocket Science Games and Marvel Comics.

Both Frank and Gary's professional careers began in 1976 at Continuity Associates in New York, where they worked with comic legends, Neal Adams and Dick Giordano. It was at this time they decided to start their own art studio.

That studio, Horizon Zero Graphiques (now known as Lightsource Studios), was established after their return to California. The studio's specialties included comics, illustration, packaging, character and game design for clients such as Atari, Sega, Nintendo, Electronic Arts and The Learning Company.

Later, during a nine-year association with Lucasfilm/LucasArts, Gary co-created, designed and developed Lucasfilm's first interactive narrative game, Maniac Mansion, which was later syndicated as a live action television series on The Family Channel. Additionally, Gary was creator/writer of the Defenders of Dynatron City computer game. He developed the comic character driven project and was the creative consultant for a wide range of licensed properties which included a half-hour animated special that aired on Fox, for which he acted as a supervising producer. He also developed and co-wrote a comic book based on the property for Marvel Comics that was illustrated by Frank.

In 1992, Gary accepted an offer of art directorship at Spectrum Holobyte to form and direct the art groups responsible for Spectrum's Star Trek, The Next Generation projects in association with Paramount Pictures. Next, Gary became a co-founder and executive producer at a new entertainment software company, Orbital Studios. Here, he directed a variety of projects such as Dinonauts, one of the company's children's entertainment titles, as part of an arrangement with Virgin Interactive Entertainment.

Working as an independent contractor for more than twenty-five years, Frank's original art, limited edition portfolios and art prints have been present on the collector's art market and in a number of one-man gallery shows since the late seventies.

At Marvel Comics, Frank designed and/or illustrated a number of titles including The Alien Legion, Samurai Cat, and LucasArt's Defenders of Dynatron City. Frank was also a featured cover artist at Marvel on such titles as The Hulk, Amazing High Adventure, The Defenders and Dr. Strange. He also illustrated a Buck Rogers miniseries for TSR.

Subsequently, Frank took a position as an art director and production designer for Rocket Science Games. As production designer, he helped conceive and develop the Mark Shultz property, Cadillacs and Dinosaurs, for Sega CD and assisted in production and character design for a variety of Rocket Science projects.
